LAHC's Sherlyn Gomez Is South Coast Conference Women's Cross Country Champ
Los Angeles Harbor College harrier Sherlyn Gomez proved to be the head of the class while Mt. San Antonio College won its fourth straight South Coast Conference women's cross country championship title on Friday. The SCC meet was held at Long Beach's Heartwell Park.
Gomez, a sophomore who was All-SCC last year when she placed seventh, blew away the field of 58 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 33.1 seconds over the 3.1 miles course.
She became the first Harbor runner in five years to be individual conference champion after the Seahawks' Marai Antanacio captured first in the 2019 championships.
Also making All-SCC First Team was Keona Mataalii, who placed seventh overall in 20:06.8
As a team, the Seahawks placed third with 95 points.
Running as a group, the trio of Emily Mejia (21:55.5), Natasha Arriaga (21.56.8) and Jasmine Ramirez (22:19) placed 31st through 33rd.
On the men's side, LAHC placed fifth as a team and was led by Aidan Tyler in 28th place at 22:06.7. Carlos Aguiar took 44th and Kenneth Servin was 59th.
